Join us on January 14, 2026 at the Jane Mallett Theatre for a special presentation of “Singing Through the Darkness” dedicated to music of the Holocaust.
Award winning singers Aviva Chernick, Judith Lander, Lenka Lichtenberg, Theresa Tova and musical director Fern Lindzon, present a moving program inspired by this unspeakably dark chapter of human history. With JazzInToronto’s Artistic Director Ori Dagan as host, the evening weaves historical storytelling with rich musical performances, illuminating how artists can use creativity as both refuge and resistance in turbulent times.
The dynamic concert takes place to mark Holocaust Remembrance 2026, the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, is at once intimate, moving, and deeply inspiring. Singing Through the Darkness honours the voices that persisted despite oppression, offering audiences a renewed appreciation for the enduring power of Jewish cultural expression. This performance follows three sold-out evenings at The Royal Ontario Museum where this collaboration was commissioned in conjunction with the exhibit “Auschwitz: Not Long Ago. Not Far Away.”
“Singing Through the Darkness” will take place on Wednesday January 14, 8pm at the Jane Mallett Theatre. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.
Tickets from $40 plus fees

ORI DAGAN: Ori Dagan is a Toronto-based jazz singer-songwriter whose rich bass-baritone, inventive scat, and sharp lyrical wit craft a sound that's both nostalgic and refreshingly modern. A graduate of York University's Music Department, he has consistently pushed the boundaries of jazz—from his bold debut (S’Cat Got My Tongue), through the genre’s first visual album (Nathaniel: A Tribute to Nat King Cole), to his clever, socially attuned originals (Click Right Here) and the award-winning tribute (Going That Counts—for Ella). A recipient of numerous awards—including the Great American Song Contest Grand Prize and the John Lennon Songwriting Grand Prize—Dagan’s artistry is repeatedly celebrated by critics for its humor, creativity, and honest musicality. Beyond the stage, he's a dedicated community leader, educator, writer, and influencer, bridging tradition and innovation while nurturing jazz’s next generation.
MIKE T. KERR: Mike T. Kerr is a wild guitar player and ambitious songwriter of Canadian heritage and American citizenship. During his time at Berklee College of Music in Boston and in over 10 years of performing, he's lived his life through many historical and contemporary musical styles. Always curious to dig up not only a song's history, but the shape of the world at the time, Mike plays passionately and openly while interpreting the great guitar players of the past, primarily across the country blues and jazz genres. A Danny Gatton lick or Django Reinhardt tune is never far from his fingertips. When it comes to his own songwriting, Mike writes storytelling ballads inspired by old movies and current events.
